I earned my JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where I was on the Law Review, and my BA in English from Binghamton University. After college, I did graduate work in English at The College of William and Mary, where I dreamed of becoming a book editor or literature professor. Prior to attending law school, I taught test prep classes for and eventually became an Executive Director of The Princeton Review, where my colleagues and I helped students pursue their dreams of college and graduate school. Every day, the atmosphere at work was electric with possibility. The same is true in every coaching session with my clients.
After law school, I practiced banking and financial services law with the federal government, two Big Law firms, a Fortune 50 company, and a leading policy organization in Washington, DC. I was in my forties — and well into the second decade of my legal career — when I learned that I have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD, or more technically, ADHD-Inattentive Type). The diagnosis was a relief. At last, I had an explanation for my frustrating inconsistency. While I frequently excelled beyond expectations and readily outperformed my peers – especially when the stakes were high for other people – at times I also struggled to execute on tasks that seemed easy for everyone else, and I became nagged by feelings of inadequacy.
Working with a coach sparked a major transformation in my life. More than merely providing time management or organization strategies, my coach restored my confidence and renewed my appreciation for my own talents. I founded Audrey Decker Coaching because I want to enable others to unlock their own gifts and use them to make their own contributions to the world.
I have completed coach training with the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) and am a member of the ADHD Coaches Organization (ACO), Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD), and the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
I live in Virginia with my husband, children, dog, cats, and more than a few dust bunnies. I love photography, reading, music, cooking, gardening, and watching my children discover what’s possible.
